Uniform day offsets in an inclusive interval
Dates are converted to calendar-day positions between the start and end, including both endpoints, then distinct offsets are sampled. From 2026-01-01 through 2026-12-31 there are 365 eligible days, so any one named date has probability 1/365 for a single draw. A two-date result cannot repeat because the first selected day is removed from that run.
A leap-day range checked by hand
Use 2024-02-27 through 2024-03-02 for a five-day example. The eligible set is Feb 27, Feb 28, Feb 29, Mar 1, and Mar 2; leap day belongs because 2024 is divisible by four and not a century exception. A request for three dates samples three of these five positions, not three dates from an assumed 28-day February.
Calendar days are not appointment times
A date has no time zone, opening hour, or business-day rule attached to it. Selecting a Friday for a giveaway does not prove a local office is open, and selecting the 31st does not make that date valid in every month. Add the relevant calendar, locale, and cutoff separately when the result controls a real deadline.
When equal dates are not fair assignments
Uniform sampling works when every eligible day should have equal chance. It is unsuitable for rota planning with staff availability, legal due dates, seasonal demand, or a schedule that must avoid weekends. Those cases require a filtered list or a constraint solver before any random choice is made.
Verify the stored date format
The output uses year-month-day order, so 2026-04-05 means April 5 rather than May 4. That order sorts correctly as text, but it can be misread by people accustomed to day-first or month-first notation. When sharing a selected date outside a technical workflow, spell out the month and include the year.
Draw once after the range is approved
If a group needs an impartial deadline, confirm the eligible interval in writing and save the first result. Removing inconvenient dates only after they appear changes the probability distribution. If blackout dates exist, exclude them before the draw so that every remaining day has the stated equal chance.
