A menu is a categorical sample
Pizza, Tacos, Sushi, and Pasta each have one 25% sector when entered once. The rule is equal chance among dishes, not equal calories, cost, preparation time, or dietary suitability. Those properties must be resolved before the menu is randomized.
A four-dinner example
For a Friday dinner list of four available meals, Sushi has probability 1/4. If Pasta appears, it is the agreed selection for that round; spinning again solely because someone hoped for Tacos changes the procedure after seeing information. Four meals give four possible outcomes, not a popularity survey.
Filter for real constraints
Allergies, budgets, closing times, and who is cooking belong in the candidate list. A vegetarian household should not leave a meat dish on an equal wheel as a ceremonial option. Duplicating Pizza to express preference is acceptable only if everyone agrees that it should have two tickets.
Limits beyond one meal
The page does not plan a week, balance nutrition, split a bill, or reserve a restaurant. A repeated meal schedule needs history and constraints rather than independent spins.
Keep choice separate from ordering
Once a meal is selected, a separate practical decision remains: portion size, delivery time, restaurant availability, and payment. A group can reasonably randomize between approved dinner ideas while still checking an order for allergens and budget. Writing the final order down avoids another subtle error: treating a category such as Pizza as if it automatically specifies toppings suitable for everyone.
A dinner result needs a fallback
For four approved options, agree what happens when the selected restaurant is closed: remove only that option and spin among the remaining three, or use a named backup. This contingency is best announced before the result. It avoids a sequence of hidden redraws caused by practical surprises and makes the later choice understandable to everyone waiting to eat.
Before choosing dinner
Confirm restaurant hours, dietary restrictions, and the spending limit while all four meal options are still possible. A prepared list lets the group accept the outcome without another negotiation.
Result record
Record the meal actually ordered, since substitutions and toppings can matter more than the broad category selected.
