Positions are the outcome
A random order generator treats the first, second, and later places as the result. With six participants, it samples one of 720 complete rankings uniformly, so every person has probability 1/6 of first position and 1/6 of last position. The ordering is suitable when everyone must eventually receive a turn rather than when only one person is needed.
A speaking sequence
For Alex, Blair, Casey, Drew, Emery, and Finley, an output numbered 1 through 6 can set a presentation order. If Blair receives position 2, that does not mean Blair was judged second-best; it means one of six positions was assigned in a random permutation. The chance that Blair is in either of the first two places is 2/6, or one-third.
Why numbering matters
A plain shuffled list can be read in different directions or restarted halfway through. Numbering makes the convention inspectable: position 1 speaks first, position 6 speaks last. Decide whether late arrivals join at the end, trigger a new draw, or are ineligible. The random mechanism cannot settle that procedural question after a sequence has begun.
Limits for priority decisions
Random position is poor evidence for triage, legal queues, appointments with different constraints, or tasks requiring specific skills. It also does not remove a completed participant for tomorrow's session. If the rule is 'everyone once before anyone twice,' keep a ledger or use a removal-based draw. That history is outside a one-time permutation.
Publish the turn convention
A group should know whether position one chooses first, presents first, or merely receives the next available slot. Those interpretations can have very different consequences when early turns offer more choice. If the advantage is material, reverse the order in a later round or use a snake draft. The generator can make one ordering impartial, but fairness across repeated sessions comes from the broader schedule that surrounds that ordering.

Say whether the sequence runs forward, reverses later, or resets; a numbered random order needs an operational convention.

Can it remember yesterday's order?
No. Keep a separate record when historical rotation matters.
