A bijection between players and roles
This page shuffles the player list and the position list separately, then matches their corresponding entries. The result is a one-to-one mapping: each listed player receives one position and each position is used once. It requires equal list lengths. Unlike a team draw, the outcome is defined by two sets, so a missing role or extra player makes the assignment incomplete.
Four players, four positions
Enter Alex, Blair, Casey, and Drew with Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, and Forward. If the shuffled lists are Blair, Drew, Alex, Casey and Midfielder, Goalkeeper, Forward, Defender, the assignments are Blair–Midfielder, Drew–Goalkeeper, Alex–Forward, and Casey–Defender. Alex has probability 1/4 of each listed position before the draw. The tool deliberately does not rank which position Alex deserves.
Eligibility comes before chance
A goalkeeper licence, injury restriction, or required certification cannot be randomized away. Remove positions a player cannot safely or validly fill, or use a constrained assignment process. The simple matching model assumes every player is interchangeable across every role. That assumption can be reasonable in a casual drill and unacceptable in a match, shift, or regulated activity.
Check both lists, not just the names
Duplicated positions give one role two chances, while a spelling variation such as 'Goal Keeper' can hide a missing role. Count both lists and agree whether a rotation will follow. This tool assigns an opening arrangement only; it does not schedule substitutions, preserve a preferred role, or balance playing time across later rounds.
Separate rotation from the opening draw
An opening role assignment does not determine who plays that role all session. For a practice, make a rotation table after the first draw so every player knows when a change happens. A four-position mapping can be fair at minute zero while still giving one person far more time in a preferred role. The later time allocation needs its own rule and record. Publish the rotation alongside the opening assignments.

Why must both lists be the same length?
A one-to-one assignment needs one role for every player and one player for every role.
Does it check skill by position?
No. It only makes a random matching between the two lists.
